Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.
The Bhagavad Gita
A regulated nervous system (and one that can be regulated anytime, anyplace) is a healthy nervous system and that is the basis of healing from any trauma. The practice of yoga brings together the brain and the body in a series of breath (pranayama) and body movements (asana).
This coordination of the breath and the body helps regulate the nervous system, giving those who practice yoga a solid baseline of support for healthy emotional regulation.
This baseline of healthy emotional regulation is vital for those healing from trauma as well as for those of us in the human services field to heal vicarious trauma we absorb in our work.
