Podcast Episode 4: Let's Talk About Mental Health, Depression & Suicide
This episode of The Steward Project Podcast is about Mental Health, specifically depression and suicide. Yes, we need to have the conversation. Because we belong to each other.
In the wake of the recent suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, the discussion has been reignited. All the same questions remain... Is depression a "chemical imbalance" in the brain? Are all people with depression suicidal? What "makes" someone suicidal? How can I help my loved one?
In this episode, I share some brain science around depression, my personal experience with depression and suicide, and some answers to the common questions/misconceptions about those who are suicidal.
If you or someone you know is living with depression or suicidal thoughts, please know that you are not alone, there is nothing "wrong" with you, and there is help. If you are able, reach out to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255)...if you are a friend or caregiver of someone in crisis, please reach out for them. For caregivers and family members, please remember to do good self-care as you support others through their mental health challenges.
